SMT1000 warning connect battery

i have an SMT1000 unit which over the weekend developed a fault, on arrival on site this AM, all lights flashing, consistant beeps.

all connected equipment not powered

unplugged UPS waited for a short period of time, reconnected it, system appears to function but.. red fault light and LCD indicates a warning status

of Connect Battery, Checked Battery connection, appears fine, would this more likely to be a battery issue or a board interface issue?

I am having the same issue with a SmartUps 1500.  The battery red light started flashing and the display indicates connect battery.  I replaced the battery and there is no change.  The battery I removed has a voltage of about 13v on each battery.

The unit has been working for several years, and this error suddenly appeared.  The battery connector was tight and the fuse tests good.  I am not certain of the output of the replacement battery, as I did not test it prior to installation.  Self test will not run as it is saying connect battery.

Any suggestions?

-Herschel

Hi,

Most of the time the issue is the battery. How old is the SMT and have the batteries ever been replaced? You can determine the age of the UPS by the serial number that is on a bar code sticker on the back of the unit.

In the example above the unit was manufactured in the year 2002 during the 49th week.

Hi,

Since the UPS is just over 4 1/2 years old the most likely cause is the battery needs to be replaced. I tested a SMT1000 here and the charger was putting out 27.6v DC so if your system is close to that the charger should be good. The option to replace the entire unit is yours.

Hi Herschel -

Was the replacement a fresh APC brand battery? The connect battery indicator would mean that the unit is not seeing appropriate voltage on the battery connector. You would want to make sure the battery is good and that everything is firmly connected. Beyond that it is possible that its a hardware failure of some sort on the UPS itself. It might make sense to contact your local tech support while you are with the unit for further assistance.

I know this is an old thread but I have had this happen to me now on three different units.

The lastest being a: srt5kxlt

Display indicated batteries needed to be replaced.  Replaced with new "APC branded" batteries.   Now the display says "Connect Battery"....... ๐Ÿ˜ž     C'mon APC, you should have way better smarts in these things to tell us end users what the issue is.   If replacement battery is not registering the correct output, then it should report that......  Can't keep dropping $$ on replacement batteries only to find out that the entire UPS needs to be replaced...    So sad.....
