Hi;
I was thinking about replacing one of my old UPS with an SMT1000, but I saw some complaints that it was a noisy UPS (and that the fan may run all the time).
I have some old APC Smart-UPS 1400 units (SU1400BX120) that I use in a quiet environment, and they only seem to make noise while on battery and for a bit after that. (The fan seems to always be off except when running on battery and a period of time right after that. It's fairly annoying when the fan is on.).
So do the current floor mounted 'Tower' SMT1000 units run their fans all the time, or is their behavior more like the SU1400 units I'm used to?
Do they make any other noises (when not running on battery)?
Thanks;

Thank you. My fan has always run constantly. Maybe that's a setting, I haven't checked for that yet.

Does anyone have any experience with the SMT line of UPSs and how quiet/noisy they are in normal (not using battery) mode?

Hi Gregory,
The SMT line of units should only run the fan while on battery, charging a depleted battery, or if the temperature is too high. Otherwise the unit will not run the fan.

My SMT1000 is about two years old and recently the fan has become noisy (the speed varies multiple times per second as though the shaft needs lubrication). Please advise, thank you.

Hi,
The fan will switch on when the battery is being charged or while running on battery. If you feel the unit is not working properly you should contact local support at 1-800-855-2725 option 1. They will be happy to assist. You should be with the unit when you call as they will walk you through troubleshooting and if needed provide a replacement.
