S20BLK Integrated NIC Internal Temp Data Logging

This question was originally posted by Brent on APC forums on 2/11/2011

In the Data Log, TIambF (ambient temperature probe) ranges correctly from 69 to 73, but TupsF (internal temp) ranges from 626.0 to 657.5.

UPS > Status > Internal Temperature correctly displays 94.55°F.

Administration > General > Preferences > Temperature Scale is set to Fahrenheit °F.

Can anyone explain or help me with this discrepancy?

i will have to go ahead and investigate and possibly log a bug on the issue. give me a day or so to do that but if it is not too much trouble, can you get me one last copy of the event.txt, data.txt, and config.ini from the latest firmware version? that way when i look into it, the files indicate the latest firmware. a screenshot of the value in the web interface may not hurt either.

thanks!!

EDIT - my unit was doing that here so i just got the files from that. to be completely honest with you, i am not sure if there will be any additional NMC firmware released for this unit. the embedded NMC is a mini AP9617 and that was recently discontinued because we now have NMC2. it'd be up to the product manager for the product whether or not we would address this in a future revision for that particular UPS. i notified the product manager about this issue with the NMC firmware.

i did log it as an issue though for you.

the value in the data log is the ambient temperature from the temperature probe connected to the back of your S20BLK.

the value you see under UPS->Status section is the internal temperature of the S20BLK AV UPS itself.

Under the Environment Tab is where you'd see the temperature probe readings that you are seeing from the data log.

Internal temperatures in Fahrenheit are 94.55, but are being logged as 657.5, while ambient temps are being logged correctly.

I've attached the log file.

oh LOL

sorry, i missed it in the first post. i apologize. i see what you mean now.

can you tell me what firmware you have on that NMC? it will be under the administration->general->About section. you should see an AOS version and APP version. 3.x.x. please let me know what you see there. in the meantime, i did not see any known issues with this or anything. another thing i'd like to know from that About section is the uptime of the NMC. I wonder if it does this when it has been up after a while.

thanks!

I considered firmware, but assumed as long as this product has been out, combined with its recent manufacture, that an issue like this would have cropped up and been resolved long ago.

Attached new Data Log that is easier to read.

you'd think.

for some reason, you are one firmware version behind.

can you try to upgrade to SFSUMX372 from the software and firmware section of apc.com and check that version? you can start from this page and choose firmware upgrades - network management card and choose the SFSUMX372 to download -> http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm

upgrade instructions can be found here: http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/768

After the firmware upgrade, which was both painless and successful, I rebooted the UPS, only to discover that the problem is not corrected.

So what's next?
