We have about 40 APC PDUs consisting of ap8841, ap8858 and ap8868.
I would like to build a little bash script that will run out to each PDU and get bkReading and devReading pf for multi bank PDUs and phReading all current for single bank PDUs but I can't access that info remotely over ssh like I can if trying to access a server remotely to gather remote data.
I have to actually log in manually and enter the command.
Is there a way to run commands against the PDU remotely over ssh?
Is ther a way to upload a public SSH key to the PDU so passwords are not required?

You probably want to use a protocol with lower overhead like SNMP.

Thanks Terry,
I was going about this the wrong way. SNMP is a better route and I am having success getting the data I need over SNMP v3.
Narrowing down the right OIDs on the AP88xx line and building my little bash script is on my tasklist for today 🙂
This will let me calculate the sum of the loads of a primary/secondary pair of PDUs to ensure I am not breaching a combined 80% in case we loose a circuit and all load rolls to the other pair member. Tying that into a cron every 10 min or so and sending an email alert into our noc will give me a little peace of mind 🙂
Off topic but next step will be getting all the PDUs into cacti. Are there any templates for the AP88xx series of PDUs?
