Hi there,
I am going to be installing a handful of UPS's at remote facilities which did not already have UPS protection for our network devices. I have a very large fleet of Smart-UPS x 1500 currently in use, and was wondering if this is still the "latest and greatest" for my application...
Standard equipment being protected is 1 - 2 Cisco 3750 PoE+ switches and an Avaya voice gateway (generally gives me about 30-50 minutes of run time which meets current SLA with clients to keep PoE VOIP phones powered). Is there a "next generation" style of Smart-UPS X 1500 that seems to be gaining in popularity?
Please note: I do not want to be contacted by sales representatives. Just looking for comments from "real people" working in "real situations" with these kinds of units, in a multi-facility environment (like Municipal government with many office buildings, and many recreation facilities).
-DB

I work at a large university looking after 400 odd APC ups 500VA-80kVA, but most of our "X" models are 3000's less than ten or so 1500's out there. (We put 3000's everywhere there is POE/VOIP, because regardless of whether there is only one switch to protect, with high power POE+ coming down the pipe gobs of power could be needed down the road and the price for a 3000 isn't that much higher than a 1500 !).
Don't know of anything newer than the X series from APC. In the market competition at this class is either the Liebert GXT3U or the Powerware (Eaton) 5PX's. We have tried a few Powerware over the years and although they function as they should their network monitoring (web/snmp) capabilities have always lagged behind APC and monitoring is a big deal for us.
