Requesting ProLiant ML350 G6 UPS Recommendation
Hello to all forum members and moderators, and thank you in advance for any input you may have.
I am charged with making the correct UPS purchase recommendation for a site that has 3 ProLiant ML350 G6 (tower) server that currently have inadequate power protection. As it stands currently these severs are experiencing power problems that cause them to shut down as opposed to rebooting when certain power events occur. I want to be sure I make the correct recommendation so that I can defend myself with HP support if the problem persists after installing adequate power protection. As these are standalone tower server I will need to specify standalone (not rack mount UPS devices).

Also the UPS should typically be twice the VA of whatever total you have for devices, so that normally the UPS runs at about 50% load.
Running a UPS at or near 100% load is possible but only gives a runtime of 3-5 minutes, and this is only when the batteries are perfectly fresh and brand new. Average battery lifespan is about 3-4 years, and during this time the runtime will likely decline about 50-70%, meaning a heavily loaded UPS now only runs 1 to 2 minutes. This may not be enough runtime for your devices to shutdown properly.
An alternate way to do it is to size the UPS to exactly match the VA required, and you add an external battery pack to increase the runtime at 100% load.
