not exactly sure where to turn here.
I've got a Smart-UPS 3000 that I bought years ago. in 08 I shut it down to move temporarily. A week ago I bought a new #11 cartridge for it from APC. The batteries came in, installed them, and up the UPS came.
But the battery charge lights are blinking constantly. After doing research I'm told it's likely because they don't know what the battery status is since they're new.
I connected using HT to the system that houses the unit and set up the web interface on the card (9606). Got on the web interface, reset the battery install date, ran a self test, and began calibration........
The battery lites stayed blinking but they dropped to one light. After a few hours it charges back up (I assume) but no matter what I do the status shows 'discharged'. I turned off the breaker and let it run with a 39% load. it ran for just over an hour.
Today, for no reason, it just shut off. There's definitely a problem somewhere but I'm not sure what to do. After running the calibration (twice) it says 'passed' but 'unkown' for the date.
I'm very concerned this isn't a good situation. if the UPS doesn't know the status of the batteries how can it know when to stop charging? that's not a good thing. And not only that, there is zero reliability, which is the ONLY reason to have a UPS in the first place right ๐
I'm just frustrated and not sure where to turn. I've done the recommended shut down, disconnect batteries, click and hold the power button and let go on the long beep, but that beep never came. I heard it click off, but that's it. When I plugged it back in, i got a short beep and it just started running. I was holding the button
Any help is greatly appreciated. $350.00 for batteries and I'm bummed this isn't working.
help!!

how much runtime does the UPS report? and what is the Low-Battery Duration setting at under the Configuration->Shut down parameters section under the UPS section on the left hand side of the screen?
if these values are within two minutes of each other, it may cause this problem. the runtime might not be accurate because the UPS hasnt realized it got a new battery. sometimes a runtime calibration does not fix this issue and we have to try a few other things.
just a guess though.

I might not have explained this well.
The lights blink, even though they show as charged. it starts at one light, and as it charges the lights increase to 5. but they blink the entire time.
I do know the UPS doesn't know what the status of the batteries are. i just can't figure out how to resolve that. They always show discharged on the status of the web control
