Redundancy below alarm threshold (Symmetra 40K THORC456)

We had a bad power module in our Symmetra 40k. The power module has been replaced, and I cleared out the fault, but the fault keeps coming back.

Now I have the alarm set for "Alarm If Redundancy Under: n+1". Every time we get that alarm, I clear it out, and then it comes back within a day or so. There is never any sign of a failed power module when I login from the web view, and it is always at the correct redundancy of n+1.

How can I troubleshoot this issue to find out what power module is the issue, if any? The logs do not tell you what power module has the problem. The only reason why we knew the other module was failed that we replaced, was because it was off and the fans were not moving...

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Ok...so I got the APC cable and I was able to capture the event log in the Intelligence Module. I see this:

0100A51E IM A Currently there is not power redundancy 04/06/11 12:59:59 478
0100D26E IM D Power Module 2 present 04/06/11 11:37:40 748
0100D51E IM D Currently there is not power redundancy 04/06/11 09:47:06 168
0202A50F PM 02 A Inverter IGBT L1 (Hi) failed 04/06/11 09:15:54 389

Does this mean for Power module #2? I also don't know what the inverter error means...

Please help!

Can you give us the load information on the unit under two scenarios?

1) When the unit does have the alarm.
2) When the unit does not have the alarm.

Even if it's a small difference, please let us know.

I can't really tell if the load changes, because every time when I look, the redundancy is back to normal at N+1. I have to clear out the alarm by switching the threshold to "never" and then back to "n+1" again.

If I go to the status view on the LCD screen itself, and watch the redundancy for like a minute or so, it will change to n+0 and then go back to n+1 a couple seconds later.

Is there anyway I can check the logs to see which module this is doing it for? I can't find any specifics...

I have consulted with our three-phase tech support guys and they agree that it's best to check the IM logs on the unit to verify what is generating the redundancy alarm and which PM could still be responsible for the issue. It was highly recommended that you call in for guidance for the procedure, or use an existing service contract to have an FSE dispatched, as improper use of the instructions/commands can affect unit functionality.

Our contract is in the process of getting renewed...So I can't have someone come out just yet.

What are the IM logs? Is there a document I can follow?

Would these be the correct steps?

1. Connect a laptop to the DB-9 connector on either IM module at the top of the UPS frame...
2. Run Hyperterminal at 19200, N,8,1 no flow control.
3. Turn "text capture" on using Transfer --->Capture Text, so you can save your session to a text file.
4. Press Enter, then type "APC" and hit Enter. "___MAIN MENU___" should show up...
5. Type "2" and enter to select "2...Service Inquiry"
6. Type "2", and enter to select menu choice "2. Request Event Log"
7. When its finished, type "0", and enter to Exit
8. Type "9", and enter to select "9. End Service Port Session"
9. You can then stop your text capture.

Are you supposed to get a prompt before you type "APC" and hit Enter,

Or will you have a blank page? I was thinking it would be like when you console into a switch, and get a prompt with a welcome page, and at least a cursor...

Is this the only cable that will work with the Intelligence Module?

http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=940-0024&tab=models

Everything I've tried hasn't worked...
