RS1000, Powerchute 3.0.2 and Windows 7 x64

Hi. I have an APC RS1000 UPS, and i'm trying to install the ups on win7 x64.
It not load the driver of the usb device. On device manager i get the "USB/VID_05D1...." hardware id, while in the APC inf driver (ApcUps.inf) i find only "HID/VID_05D1...." items.
The powerchute installer keep saying me that it not find the ups. I've also tried to modify the APC inf and add the "USB/VID_05D1...." line, and the driver load ok, but the software still doesn't find the ups.
What i can try to do?

Thanks!

EDIT: Uhm, maybe this thread will be better suited in the powerchute subform... Sorry for the mistake!

Another solution, better for me, would be leave at window 7 the management of the ups. Loading the driver with the "USB/VID_05D1...." mod of the ini file, it recognize it as a battery, but windows doesn't seem to use it as a battery...

Someone can help me? Thanks!

to maybe see if you can get windows 7 native support going, the first thing that came to my mind was to check FA159743 @ http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/

i am not sure on the specific issue with PCPE to be honest but if you at least want to get the native Windows 7 support going, i'd take a look at the article above. if you get this to work, then we at least know the UPS will communicate with the OS and if you want to try powerchute again, we'd know it works with the OS and could look into it further.

Hi!
First of all. thanks for the help!
The problem is that my rs1000 is recognized as USB device, and not as an HID device (as per instruction on the tech article posted, and also the same problem with the powerchute software).
I think that maybe my RS1000 is too old, or need a firmware update (that is not listed on the apc website)

it should not be too old as far as i know if it has a USB cable (versus serial). plus, this UPS type is not upgradable by the user.

do you have another computer to try it with by chance, just as a test? i also know once, i had an issue with the communication cable cause a straight communication issue even though the cable looked fine. it's rare but you don't see any physical issues with the cable?

I've done the test, also on the other computer (win 7 ultimate x64) is still recognized as "USB" device and not "HID".
And windows can't install any driver for it.
The cable was new, i have this ups from 3/4 years, and i've never connected it to the pc, so the cable is new and isn't damaged...
Maybe is the ups having problems?

Too bad, as i'm using an intel raid (rapid storage), and i can't enable writeback cache without an ups installed and recognized by the os 😞 And for sure i can't poweroff the pc if there is a block out and i'm out of the office 😞
