Hello-
The "Replace Battery" light on my Smart UPS 1000XL is on and the UPS cannot support any load on battery.
The battery is around 2 years old (Serial # 4A0633...) and the UPS is about 6 years old (Serial # AS0247...).
2 years seems like a rather short life for a battery that has always been plugged in and I'm not sure how to check if the UPS itself is faulty. Any help troubleshooting this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks
-jason

Out of curiosity how much load was on the UPS when you experienced this loss of "on-battery" power?
{color:#0000ff}
I have experienced this with only a 100watt light bulb plugged into the UPS{color}
How often has the UPS gone to battery since replacing the battery 2 years ago?
{color:#0000ff}Maybe a half dozen times or so at most{color}
Any unusual LEDs appear lately other than the red "replace batt" LED?
{color:#0000ff}Before the "replace battery" light went on I experienced the "all battery indicator lights flashing" when my computer would put a higher load (45-50% capacity) on the UPS{color}.
Where did you get the replacement battery?
{color:#0000ff}The APC online store{color}
Can we measure batt DC voltage with a volt/multimeter?
{color:#0000ff}26.64 volts{color}

Do you have our PowerChute software installed, or a Network Management
Card such as AP9617?
{color:#0000ff}Yes, I have the PowerChute software{color}
to check one setting on the UPS if possible.
{color:#0000ff}Sure, which setting(s)?{color}

I would just want to check your PowerChute logs primarily. If you could post that in a text file that would help.
It sounds like a bad battery to me so I'd like to see what kind of events have been coming up.

i've taken a look at the logs. sometimes the UPS is detecting the battery with good voltage, other times its disconnected and it doesn't see ANY voltage from the battery at all even though you know for a fact with the voltmeter its about 26.64vDC.
has the replace battery light been FLASHING? to be honest, i could go either way on this. i am beginning to think it may be the UPS since it randomly doesn't detect ANY battery voltage. it may be a problem with the UPS circuitry or battery connection that cannot be fixed by simply reseating the connections (which i'd try if you haven't).
so overall, i could say this could be caused by the UPS, rather than the battery after seeing the event logs and data logs as well as all the other information you provided. you are right - the battery isn't THAT old and its a bit premature for it to be failing. the logs back up the theory that there is something wrong with the UPS detecting the battery and its voltage. it COULD be the battery though i guess but I personally think its a slim chance based on the evidence.
