Hello all! First time poster, here.
In amidst my APC collection lay a Matrix 3000 (MX3000EU / WM0051012276) and a 5000 (MX5000PE / EM9832002476). Both currently untested, by being plugged in (which is the issue), and powered from the installation of batteries.
The 3000 I found in Seattle at a place called RE-PC (http://www.repc.com) and sold "as is". It came with one Smartcell XR battery unit (4 batteries to hold) with NO batteries in it. The cord of the 3000 unit, seems to have had bolt cutters or something taken to it, as it is now has a (perhaps) 6in from the base "stub". That's not a real issue as I'm certain I can still place the correct plug type on it despite it being as short as it is, and create a longer extension cord later on to hook into it.
Since I've tried and failed to find specs on these devices, both on the APC site and Google / Altavista, my questions are these:
1) Are these units 30a / 208v or 30a / 240v?
2) I suspect 208v but would they suffer damage if connected to a 30a / 240v socket for power?
3) In a twist lock 30a / 240v, are there TWO hots and a ground? Or the usual hot / neutral / ground?

I would be weary of buying "as-is" units that have been long discontinued at APC. If you find that there are issues with the Electronics Unit or Isolation Unit (top and bottom sections of the Matrix-UPS, respectively), there will be no easy way to obtain replacement parts.
You can view the tech specs and documentation for the [5000VA|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=mx5000] and [3000VA|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=mx3000] Matrix-UPS on our website.
To answer your specific questions:
1) Both varieties of Matrix-UPS is designed for either 208v or 240v (hot-hot-ground) 30 Amp service typically supplied by a L6-30 NEMA outlet.
2) Matrix-UPS does not prefer either 208 or 240vAC. It has a fairly liberal input voltage range for normal operations: 156 - 252v (208v) / 176 - 282v ( 240V)
3) NEMA L6-30 is always hot-hot-ground. It is assumed that any L6-30 outlet has been properly installed by a licensed electrician and supplied by at least a 30A upstream breaker.
The Matrix-UPS can output any combination of 120v, 208v, or 240v any time by way of its built-in isolation transformer.
You need to purchase a single RBC14 to fill that SmartCell XR cabinet with the 4 batteries (RBC14 is a kit including all 4 separate batteries).

The input on the Matrix line of UPS systems would be 30a, 208 or 240 single-phase. The default is 208v; for 240v use you must change the input voltage selector on the UPS. The unit uses an L6-30 connection for an input cord.
The Matrix would not suffer damage when used with a 30a 240v connection assuming the wiring was done properly.
For the input on the unit, 240v would require H H G wiring scheme, as would a 208v wiring input.

I take it that the (HOT) wires are both 120-125v each, thus create the 240v?
Though I know the RBC14 cells are available through APC, I have a local place where I can aquire the required 70amp 12v replacements.
