Problem with SMT1500RMI2U 1500VA - message when UPS turned on "EPO Active - Press On/Off Key"

Hi,

So registered here with the hope I might be able to find a solution to this problem.

I recently bought an APC SMT1500RMI2U from ebay sans batteries, bought some batteries for the unit and it seemed to be working fine.

Then after several hours of operation the unit would turn off with a message about "Relay Weld" - I found someone else who had this and replaced all of the replays on the circuit boards. I did the same and this problem went away. (The eBay seller refunded me an agreed amount, so I paid very little for it on the principle of it being 'for parts' - so I am not too sour about this if I end up having to bin it)

Unfortunately I am now presented with a new problem.

When attaching the unit to power the message "EPO Active - Press On/Off Key" comes up - this happens both when plugged into mains or running from batteries. I have managed to get it to go away a couple of times after leaving the unit unplugged from mains and battery for a while and then plugging back in (I think this is referred to as 'braindeading' the unit). However this is not working at the moment.

The unit does not have an EPO connector on the back so it is not possible to activate the EPO externally.

My (uneducated) guess at what is happening is that the internal circuitry in these units is standardised and somewhere on the circuit board is the point where the 'EPO switch' would be connected and there is some kind of short circuit going on at this point.

I basically just wanted to ask before I open her back up if anyone has seen this kind of fault before or if they are able to offer me any kind of direction in terms of where to look for faults?

Cheers,

Hello,

We are experiencing the same issue with one of SMC3000RML units. Working fine for nearly a year and then this appears.

The LCD screen shows EPO Active - Press On/Off Key

Pressing the on/off key does nothing, the unit beeps but the LCD does not change and the unit does nothing.

I installed the PowerChute software and connected with my laptop. The software connects, nothing much in the event log of it. I try to run a self-diagnostics test, it runs for 2-3 seconds then in the results section of the test it says "Refused". Never had that happen before.

I was inquiring if you ever found a resolution, besides chucking the unit.

Hello All,

I am also dealing with this issue with two new APC units

Model
Smart-UPS X 2000

SKU-SMX2000RMLV2UNC

I have tired everything to get this to clear and nothing works. I had one device connected to it, ran for 2 days then got this error when I came in the other morning. I couldnt get it to clear, replaced it with another main unit and connected everything the same got the same issue a few days later. Would it be the power input that might be causing this issue. Its connected to a 110v outlet with the correct amp rating and circuit breaker. This is really concerning as i have like 4 more of these units that I need to deploy but not with this issue.

I tired disconnecting the battery, try another outlet/circuit, updating firmware, running on battery only, still same issue. Note there is no EOP wired up or anything for this to trigger, i even tried wiring in a push button to the EOP input on the back, it didnt do anything on any of the terminal position. Really need help on this ASAP.

I also tried to perform the self test as mention above and got the same results.

If these units are brand new I would highly suggest you reach out to APC Technical Support directly and request a RMA.

In the interim what does the internal logs show? What are the serial numbers of the units showing this problem?!?

Lastly, please upload a photo of the EPO message displayed on the LCD when present.

Hello I just spent a day troubleshooting a smx3000rmhv2unc for the same "EPO Activate press on/off" I finally found the solution. My emergency power off relay was normally open. We had common running to pin 3 and +24vDC to pin 1 jumpered to pin 2. This was the configuration for normally closed contacts. If you switch +24VDC to pin 1, no jumper required and common to pin 2 you will be able to cycle power on off with the button, clearing the EPO fault.
