Hi
I have Back-UPS RS 1500 LCD. Currently, we have personal edition of Powerchute software. Can we switch to business edition? Would it support our UPS?
Thx
Tom

You can edit the PCPE Runtime values by making changes to specific registry entries. If you are going to edit the registry you should first back it up. Info on how to back the registry up can be found at the Microsoft Support site.
Note: editing the system registry is not official supported by Schneider Electric.
To change the options for "Preserver battery power" you need to edit HKLM\Software\APC\PowerChute Personal Edition\3.02.00\Setting\Max runtime when onbattery.
To change "Keep my computer on as long as possible" you need to edit HKLM\Software\APC\PowerChute Personal Edition\3.02.00\Setting\Max runtime remaining or HKLM\Software\APC\PowerChute Personal Edition\3.02.00\Setting\Min runtime remaining. WARNING! Min runtime remaining should never be set lower than 2.

PowerChute Business Edition is designed to work with the Smart-UPS family of UPS not the Back-UPS. If you would like to use PowerChute Business Edition you should upgrade the UPS to a Smart-UPS.

Is there any other software we could use as we need more options for the period of time on battery after which server shutdowns. The maximum is 5mins and this is not enough for us. Any suggestions?
We have Windows SBS 2003.

You do have other software options. You can use the Windows native power options Kbase FA159653 or you could install APCUPSD.
Question, Do you want to change the preserve battery power pull down options and if so what do you want to change them to? Are you looking to do something like shutdown system when UPS had been on battery for 10 minutes instead of the max now of 5?

Yes. Basically we need the battery to shutdown the server when it is on the battery for 15-20mins (we will do further testing). The problem we have is that we need to preserve the battery's life so in rare occasions we can boot the server up on the battery when power is gone and be able to look up some files on the server. The problem is that server's startup takes about 15-20mins. Once you log in, we will manually change the setting to keep the server running on battery as long as possible and then shut it down manually when we are finished looking up the files. I hope it makes sense.
