I just purchased the Back-UPS XS 1500 LCD and am very happy with it. The software (Powerchute) is a nice addition but I do have one problem with it. When I boot up my computer, I get the Powerchute icon in the taskbar. when I right or left click the icon, it will start the program but causes an error (see the attached jpg for error details - I also have the entire error message as a text file that was sent to Microsoft if that would be of any use). Powerchute still runs without a problem but the icon disappears. I can restart the program by clicking apcsystray.exe in the program folder to get the icon back in the taskbar. Any idea how to stop this error???

That makes sense, the reason I questioned it is because the second screenshot says "display.exe" Normally it would be "apcsystray" or something APC/PCPE related. That's what's confusing about that application failing to appear. I also ran a search for that failure point, and nothing was returned.

I just noticed that the two screenshots I included are different. The first one mentions 'apcsystray' while the second one mentions 'display.exe'. Does your most recent response mean that there isn't anything that can be done or is there still hope?

My recent response is questioning what Display.exe is pointing to. APCsystray is definitely PowerChute Personal Edition. However, I'm unsure about display.exe.

display.exe is located in the Powerchute program folder. In it's properties, it's described as "Startup notification module".

Any type of anti-virus or spyware software that was running when this was installed could cause a problem. It may also have a conflict with something else at startup. Have you run an AV and Spyware scan to see if there's any conflicts?
I'd also recommend using Windows Defender to scan the system as well.
You don't happen to have AOL do you? I've come to find out recently that AOL 9.0 does not play well with PCPE.

Don't use AOL and ran a full system AV overnight. Are you saying that If I had my AV running as normal when I installed Powerchute, that could have caused the problem? I'll run a spyware scan and figure out Windows Defender for now.

Gumby,
Please try disabling anti-virus then re-installing the software to rule that out as a problem.

Thanks for your assistance. I uninstalled Powerchute, disabled Norton's A/V, reinstalled Powerchute and same problem. The attached jpg shows the error at the end of installation. Previously, since the last time I responded, I did a spyware check with (as usual) nothing found. Any other suggestions?

I think I'm missing something here,
Can you provide your system specifications which include OS and version of PCPE?

I guess there appears two different errors I've posted in this thread. The first one is the Powerchute error message when I click on the icon in the taskbar and the second (from my most recent post) is the error message when I re-installed Powerchute. I believe it's the same problem but resulting in two different actions.
As requested,
System Info:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
