Hi
Whenever I try to install the software the Agent installs fine but Server doesn't: it hangs on 'Creating Server Service'. If you stop/close the installation the server doesn't work properly. I followed the instructions for manual removal of the powerchute but the same thing happens afterwards. Any ideas on how to fix it?

To remove the Server service follow the instructions provided on 4 June. Those registry entries need to be removed. If that does not resolve the issue I suggest rolling the the system back to a known good date and start from there.
Again, you should not install version 6. Version 6 has an embedded version of Java that has expired and will not run properly. What version of Windows are you installing on? Is it 64 bit or 32 bit? What version of PowerChute are you installing? What model Smart-UPS do you have and do you manage more than 1 Smart-UPS?

Windows SBS 2003 32bit (fully updated). Was trying to install version 6.2.2 from CD as well as the latest 9 something. Saying that, after manual removal I only tried version 6.2.2. We have only one UPS which is Smart-UPS 1000.

You should not install version 6.x There are know issues with the Java that was bundled with that version. If you have installed version 6.x Agent uninstall that and then check the registry for any of these

Run the 9.1 installer and install the Agent. Then install the Server. If the Server still does not install open a command prompt as admin. CD to the system temp folder. That is where the installer decompresses the needed files. The path will be named something similar to D:\TEMP\WZSE5.TMP\Bin\server. You can find the system temp folder by right clicking on My Computer - go to Properties - Advanced - Environment Variables. Once you find the installer files run setup.exe from the command prompt.
Note: When using PowerChute Business Edition with just 1 UPS you do not need to install the Server and Console. You can access the Agent via a web browser. The address is https://system IP:6547 or you can use https://127.0.0.1:6547

I followed the original manual instructions for the removal but now when I try to install Agent it comes up with the following message:
'The PCBE Agent service uninstallation service has not completed. Please reboot and re run the installation again.'
It doesn't go away, even after following the instructions again and rebooting the server. Any idea?

Did you follow the instruction in Kbase FA159894 http://www.apc.com/site/support/index.cfm/faq/
If you did and the software will still not install then is sounds like the system is corrupted. You should roll the system back to a known good state / date.

Version 9 will not install but I tried version 6 and Agent installed fine (I didn't follow the instructions again as it would be the third time). I uninstalled Agent using Add/remove Programs and will try version 9. Just one additional question: The Agent service is gone from services console but Server service is still there although it is stopped. How can I remove it completely before installation?
