I just purchased a Back-UPS NS1080 and installed Powerchute Personal Edition. The installation appeared to go fine with no errors. The program seems to start and the icon appears in the system tray but when I attempt to open it, it crashes immediately with an error "PowerChute has encounterd a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
My system is a 32 bit WinXP. I've tried turning off the fire wall and anti-virus.
Any ideas? Help!

Anything in your Windows Event Viewer?
Also, this is what came to mind for me, perhaps you are experiencing the same on Windows XP? -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=US〈=en&id=FA159774

Thanks for the response!
I checked the link you posted and that doesn't appear to be the problem. Both font files are in the correct location.
I didn't find anything in the Windows Event Viewer but here is the summery of what Windows wants to send to Microsoft.
Hopefully this will be helpful...?

I don't know too much more about this but I mentioned it to Bill P. to see if he had any other ideas how to narrow down the problem. Hopefully he can post tomorrow if he has any insight. It is difficult because it could be a particular conflict or something else.

If PowerChute is crashing immediately that indicates that there is a conflict with either another application or service that is running. The best way to troubleshoot this is to stop all other apps and services to see if PowerChute runs properly. If it does then bring a few of the stops apps and services back on line and monitor PowerChute to see which app or service causes the crash. If PowerChute does not run properly with all other apps and services stop then that would indicate an issue with either the HID driver or possible the USB host controller/s on the system.
If you don't want to troubleshoot PowerChute you have a few options. You could uninstall PowerChute and use the Windows Power Options in the control panel to communicate with the Back-UPS and have that app provide graceful shut down. See Kbases FA159653 and FA159743 or help with the Power Options. Your other option would be to use APCUPSD which is a free application that works similarly to PowerChute. APCUPSD can be found at www.apcupsd.com
