Powerchute Business Edition can't disover APC device via USB

I have two SBS 2003 servers each with a different APC device connected via USB. I installed Powerchute Business Edition Basic on each server without a hitch. This was only about a year ago. Since then the PBE agent service won't start, and PBE doesn't "see" the USB attached APC device. When I tell it to search, it only wants to find a device with an IP address. Both devices are connected via USB. I guess the question is, why won't the agent start? Why can't PBE "see" the USB device? Thanks!

Powerchute personal edition is the software you are supposed to use so I would recommend that you use that and uninstall business edition. powerchute business edition only works with a 940-0128D cable (RJ-45 to DB9) which only provides simple signaling anyway (which means you will only know if the UPS is online or on battery). no other information you see in PCPE will be shown - like input voltage, etc

i would try closing that console out, and working with just the PCBE agent. to do that, access the agent via http://127.0.0.1:3052 or http://:3052 in the web browser- this is direct access to the agent.

lets see what you get when you access that. i'd want to know what you are seeing for the UPS status as well as the information under Protected System->System Settings->Communication type.

your interface should look similar to this screenshot (except yours should say USB) i have attached when you access this web agent interface
I have similar problem. I cannot access Protected System->System Settings->Communication type. This option doesn't work for me (page is empty).

I tried this, but it doesn't work. IE can't find the web page. Probably because the agent isn't running. When I try to start the agent I get:

The APC PBE Agent service terminated with service-specific error 0 (0x0).

can you take a screenshot of this error? have you tried to start the service in safe mode? can you show us what the properties box looks like for the APC PBE Agent service, for each of the tabs?

Hi,

sitting with a similar issue. PCBE Agent starts up but doesn't detect my UPS(Back-UPS 1000 RS) via USB. UPS is detected fine with PC Personal Edition. Is my UPS not compatible, or is PCBE only for Servers(I run XP Pro SP 3 - all updates installed)
