Power Chute with MacIntosh OS X 10.9.2?

Hi,

I have an 27" iMac with an operating system of OS X 10.9.2.  There is no Power Chute currently for this MacIntosh operating system.  I want to remove the cable that goes from the BE750G to the iMac computer USB for PowerChute because my iMac restarts all by itself for some appent reason and I am trying to narrow down the items connected to my computer.  Is anyone aware of any problem that this will cause with the BE750G APC Backup UPS?  If so, please advise.

Thanks,

relaxed4102

If your UPS is a Smart-UPS with a Network Management Card we offer PowerChute Network Shutdown. Your options if connected to a UPS via USB are Native Power Save or APCUPSD.

Hi,

If you do not use the energy saver option with the UPS you do not need the cable connected so it is fine to disconnect it.

Hi,

Can I ask if you had the APCUPSD software installed on that iMac?

If you did, you can try removing it using the command below in Terminal.

sudo /sbin/apcupsd-uninstall

Reboot the iMac after doing this, and you should see the UPS in Energy Saver.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

We downloaded the free version of 10.9.2 and after the upgrade attached Back-UPS to the system. We tested a few different Back-UPS and in each case Energy Save is available and works as expected.

As for your question about the cable, if you are not using Energy Save or as mentioned by john1712 APCUPSD then there is no reason for having the USB cable attached to the Back-UPS.

Hi,

It happened again on Monday, May 12, 2014 @ 8:47am, my 27" iMac crashed again because the cable from the APC Backup UPS BE750G was plugged into the APC Backup UPS to the back of my 27" iMac USB port.  APC does not support my operating system or OS X 10.9.2.  So I unplugged the cable again from the USB port on the back of my 27" iMac.  APC should not make a Backup UPS for MacIntosh if they can't support thr current operating system or OS X 10.9.2.

I filed a report with Apple again on the crash as follows:
