Phase Balancing

We have a 3-Phase MGE UPS (20kVA). Currently our phases are unbalanced. I'm not familiar with the calculations that effect unbalanced loads in 3-Phase systems, and I'm wondering what effects an unbalanced load is actually having on our total system.

By balancing the loads would the entire system become more efficient? Would it increase battery life? etc. etc.

the MGE unit has to have each phase within 10amps of each other, otherwise the system could go into bypass, so because of this balancing is very important. Balancing the load also helps with efficiency but has no effect on the batteries
