PTEL2R & ISDN2

Hi

I noticed from user manual that :
The PTEL2R module protects analog telephones, ADSL, ISDN2, ...
http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z7V8J_R0_EN.pdf

Could you confirm that PTEL2R protects ISDN2?

Actually I wonder what the difference between ISDN & ISDN2? what about breakover voltage for ISDN2 compared to tel line?

Thank you

Thank you for the clarification.

As far as I can see at Harvard site :
TA: Terminal Adaptor. This lets old, TE2 stuff talk to the ISDN network. It also adapts other kinds of equipment, like ethernet interfaces , to ISDN. and the TE2: Terminal Equipment type 2. This is the old analog telephone. Or old-style fax machine. Or modem. Or whatever you used to hook up to the analog phone line.

So to protect the old-style system with analog interface we can still use ptel2r ( on the left side of the picture) like: TE2----ptel2r----TA ( which converts one protocol to another) --- PDIGTR -..., right?

Actually we do not know where the surges come from.

The PTEL2R does not support ISDN2.

PDIGTR protect net device can be used to protect ISDN lines from harmful Surges.
http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=PDIGTR

PDIGITEL also supports ISDN line...
http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=PDIGITEL

I do not think that there is difference between ISDN and ISDN2. The Break Over voltage of ISDN2 should be 260 V.

I hope that this helps.

Thank you,

You wrote: ' I do not think that there is difference between ISDN and ISDN2. The Break Over voltage of ISDN2 should be 260 V.'

if the breakover voltage should be 260V, then PDIGTR with breakover voltage =60V will break the ISDN2, right?

If so, why PTEL2R does not support ISDN2?

The PDIGTR Let through voltage is < 60 not break over voltage. Please view the below document to know what is Let through Voltage term.

The PDIGTR supports Digital Phone Line and RJ45 ISDN, where as the PTEL2R supports Analog Phone Line(phone/fax/modem/DSL).

hmm..the PTEL2R technical specification page does not say that it supports ISDN2, where as the PTEL2R User manual says that it supports ISDN2.
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=PTEL2R

I will investigate this in depth to provide you a confirmation on this. Have you already purchased the PTEL2R for your ISDN line?

ok,
Could you read the user manual ( page 1) please.
http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=PDIGTR

It says:
"Model PTEL2R (Analog Telephone Protection)
The PTEL2R module protects analog telephones, ADSL, ISDN2, voice mail and
automated answering systems, fax machines and modems from damage caused by
lightning-generated electrical transients. Each PTEL2R protects up to 2 lines."

So, the ISDNS2 should be removed from the part of the manual, right?

Mikhail,

We have not heard from the product specialist yet. I was told that he is on vacation this week. We will update you as soon as we hear back from the concern person.

If you need a Protect net device to protect your ISDN line, then you can buy the PDIGTR as we are 100 % sure that it can protect ISDN lines from data line surges.

Mikhail,

I apologize for keeping you waiting regarding your question about ISDN2 and the appropriate surge protector. After consulting our product specialists for these product line, we were able to get the correct RackMountable ProtectNet for ISDN2 application and this is the PDIGTR.

The clamping voltage of PDIGTR is 60V peak for metallic surges and at 60V peak for longitudinal surges with a response time of <= 1ns. What you would need to know is where are you going to connect/install the PDIGTR. Please see the illustration below:

From our research as well we've found out that ISDN2 is a higher bandwidth functionality as compared to ISDN. ISDN2 systems have the same system connectivity and surge protection requirements. In reality it is the location within the ISDN/ISDN2 system where different modules should be used. The illustration above and the link provided below will show you where to use the PDIGTR or the PTEL2R.

Please see check this link as well to help you understand the ISDN Reference Configurations --> [http://hea-www.harvard.edu/~fine/ISDN/n-isdn.html#signaling]

If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact us.
