OK so this past week we had a power outage and I had previously configured PCNS with a network management card in all of my UPS units. The servers had been added in as clients. Now I assumed that when the NMC knew the unit was running off power that it would send a shutdown message to my servers and I left everything at defaults. I manually shutdown my servers but left a test box on to see what would happen and the APC lost power and never sent a signal to this machine. Is the behavior of this supposed to send a shutdown command or is this more of a manual process? I guess that is OK for when I am in the office but at 2AM I'd like piece of mind knowing this could work?

I'm thinking I need to confirm my shared passphrase as the main switch the servers and UPS connect into was on-line at the time. Thank you for providing that document!

the logs on each one of your PCNS clients should be helpful too - to see if it has a no communication error or if it did start a shutdown and couldnt finish, etc

Yep that was it clients appear to not have been communicating with the NMC, might have been incorrect passphrase on some and then others the switch went down. Thanks for your help how can I mark your post as the answer?
