Customer with PCNS 4.2 installed on Windows.
2 x UPS groups
Group A has 2 UPS, protecting 2 x ESXi hosts in cluster with DRS Fully Automated. Pulling power on both UPS at the same time, causes "Maintenance mode" on one host which results in DRS migrating VMs to the other host. PCNS User Guide, PowerChute Network Shutdown v4.2 VMware 990-4595E-001 07/2016, p26 under "Virtual Machine Migration" states:
If you enable Virtual Machine migration, use the Duration field to set the time allowed for the VMs to migrate to another healthy Host in the Cluster. VMs will not be migrated to Hosts that are powered off, in a disconnected state, in maintenance mode, or affected by a UPS critical event.
Why is PCNS migrating VMs to the other host in the cluster that is affected by the same UPS Critical event? How do I stop this behaviour? Customer prefers to issue VMware Shutdown to hosts (rather than enter maint mode) which they advise will result in VM shutdown, not migration, under DRS Fully Automated.
Thanks

Yes it has been considered and should be implemented in the next release. Unfortunately I do not have an ETA.

Hi,
Both hosts need to be in maintenance mode to prevent the VMs from migrating. Are both hosts listed in PowerChute host protection summary as protected hosts?

We are looking to add the option of not putting the host into maintenance mode and adding that feature to a future release.

Thanks for the reply Bill
Yes, both hosts are listed as protected and the cluster consists of only those 2 hosts.
Can you provide an update on the feature request? Has it been considered? Favourably? Any ETA?
Looking through this forum it appears there are a lot of us (desperately) wanting this feature.
Thanks for you ongoing and prompt responses
Ed
