Hello,
we have 4 vSphere ESXi 4.1 server and 4 APC Smart UPS 1500.
In each server operates one vMA 4.1. In each vMA PCNS 3.0.0 was installed.
We configured PCNS with internet explorer 8. The username, password and the authentication phrase is all UPS the same.
Unfortunately, the configuration works only on a UPS.
On the other 3 UPS we get the error:
"ERROR: NMC http://192.168.1.174:80 found incorrect, but is information security. Check the User Name and Authentication Phrase."
A firmware update and reboot the AP9617 has been carried out.
Request for support:)
Tom

No, I could solve the problem:
The authentication phrase must have a certain number of characters.
"test123" was too short. With a longer phrase is working 🙂
Thank you for your time Jon !!!

Hi Tom,
First I would like to know how was PCNS installed on each ESXi, is it Single UPS, Redundant or Parallel?
Next, did the PCNS and NMC do have the same username? This is one of the requirement when installing PCNS also did you change or key in a different authentication phrase? The default authentication phrase for the NMC is admin user phrase, try changing this on each NMC and use this when installing PCNS.

Hello Jon,
1) It is a single UPS (hc_1314.jpg).
2) NMC and PCNS have the same username and password (hc_1315.jpg).
3) Today a change the Authentication Phrase to the same password like PCNS and NMC (hc_1316.jpg).
Please help.
Tom

TomOnline,
After changing and applying those things that you did on your previous post, did it work right away or you had to wait for sometime? The most common things why this would cause a problem is a totally different authentication phrase. The NMC and PCNS do have different phrases configured on them.

I totally forgot about the length of the authentication phrase. The acceptable length is 15 to 32 ASCII characters.

Hi.
I have the exact same problem, but I dont think it is the lenght of the authentication phrase that is wrong.
I have single Smart UPS 1500 with MGMT card AP 9631 and 7-8 servers (windows, linux and ESX)
I'm new to this, so i may be doing something wrong 🙂
I have updated to newest firmware and restarted the UPS/Card and connected the servers to the UPS and now when I try to install PCNS 3.0.0 (on windows server 2008 R2 x64) it gives me the error msg:
"ERROR: NMC http://ip address:80 found incorrect, but is information security. Check the User Name and Authentication Phrase."
I have tried different aut. phrases, and tried to set it to standard (admin user phrase), but I still got the error.
I am also not sure where I set the auth. phrase, there is more than one place to set it. Anyone know the difference?
1. UPS - Configuration - shutdown - authentication phrase
2. UPS - Configuration - sync control - authentication phrase (and encryption phrase)
I have set the phase to the same both places.
I'm logging in to the webGUI with the default "administrator" user and have set the password in (administration - security - local users)
And i'm using the same login at the client.
Any idea anyone????
Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi Frank,
The authentication phrase that PCNS looks for should be set up on UPS>Configuration>Shutdown>Authentication Phrase.
On all servers/computers that you've been using, they all do not work or communicated with PCNS? Can you do a Reset to Defaults Except TCP/IP on the network management card and try the PCNS Configuration Wizard one more time?
