PCBE email notification fails.

I am trying to test notifications.
I'm using myself as sender and it works fine to my email address.
But I am also trying to send to my cell phone. This one causes a fail. I know it works because I can send myself email from my outlook to the cell phone.
Is there any log files or anything that gives more description on the failure

Ron,

Unfortunately USB is Smart-Signaling, and therefore the circuitry hasn't been designed, nor is there an intention to that I'm aware of. The serial ports are simple signaling, and therefore, it would be basically impossible to have simple signaling USB ports due to their communication.

Hello again K.

What I have figured out so far is, It will send to my internal email, no problem, but nothing external. I've tried both my cell phone and an email that resides elsewhere and they both fail. I've gone through the document you linked to and all that checks out

Instead of starting a new thread maybe you can answer one more quickie.
Is there a USB version of the interface expander? AP9207. I can't seem to find any.

Hi K,
a question about your smart signalling comment.
I want to order the interface expander, and there is a choice of cables, some smart signalling and some simple. what is the difference between parts 940-0020, 940-0024, AP9804?

Ron,

The only interface expanders available are the two port simple signaling (uses the 940-0020) (part number AP9607), and the Share-UPS interface expander (uses 1 940-0024 and 7 940-0020)(part number AP9207). Other than that, there are no additional serial interfaces that are still supported.

To debug the email notification problem, I would use wireshark to capture the traffic and see what's happening. For example, if you see it attempting to connect to an external mail server but failing, then perhaps the port is blocked. If you see it connect to your mail server but the mail server refuses to deliver, you'll find out why. One possibility is that your mail server will not relay to external addresses without authenticating to prevent misuse by spammers.
