Hi,
I'm trying to configure the email notification portion of the powerchute server configuration but whenever I click the test button the process fails.
I have an Exchange 2007 configured on an internal domain (win2003 x64) with outlook 2003 clients and mails are being routed correctly.
I very new to this and cannot figure out why powerchute is unable to send its test email.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I know that most instances of Exchange require authentication to send/receive email. Also, the Software sends email on port 25 and within the new version of Exchange it re-routes that to an internal port. That also cannot be changed in the software. I guess we should start with whether or not authentication is required.

Unfortunately no. You would somehow have to makeshift the server to allow email to be sent from that address without authentication

TO APC
MOST SMTP SERVERS REQUIRE AUTHENTICATION
WHY DONT YOU FIX YOUR SOFTWARE
OR OFFER A SOFTWARE UPGRADE FOR A FEE ??

There's really two different SMTPs. The original SMTP is a mail transfer agent. This does not require authentication. Eventually because of spam, SMTP no longer relays mail in this role however it should accept mail destined for the users it serves. Later on, someone decided to use SMTP to accept mail from clients for transfer elsewhere. In this role, SMTP requires authentication.
The reason I make this distinction is because even if you can't send mail elsewhere using your local SMTP server (which would require authentication), you can probably connect to the recipient's SMTP server and send the mail without authentication.
Edited: s/SNMP/SMTP/g -- darn the acronyms

I agree with iceboxdave. APC suck so badly. Frankly it's a pleasure to watch other UPS manufacturers pickup their slack. What a ridiculous mess.
