Machine:
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
2G RAM, 2.60 GHz
If you turn on data collection, CPU utilization increases 40-45%. That's too much. If you turn it back off, the app hangs which forces uninstalling, then installing to restore. Killing the process by Task Manager will kill the process, but the data collection can't be turned off, thus forcing uninstallation.
Suspect the same problem when trying to report this same info through the app's comment feedback; the app hangs when closing by the X in top right corner.
I'm keeping it turned off.
See attached resource data. The circled area in the CPU graph is when the data collection is turned on. The area to the left of this is when the data collection is turned off. Applications do not normally make this much effect on the CPU utilization.

You can to an all-day test, but the results may be immediate. Was for me. Also, this is on a 64-bit machine.

Hello,
I'll run a test on this tomorrow afternoon and let this run for most of the day and see what the utilization continues to be. I'll post back with the results tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks,
I'm not sure how the software is going to react to the 64-bit, that may be a little bit deeper of information than I can provide. Currently our lab only has a 32-bit machine. I only say all day testing because I will have to set it up, monitor it, then leave it along for awhile to tend to other duties, and go back to it later on and verify the information that was originally provided is still present.
Is this 2.1.1. I presume?

It was 2.1. I just installed 2.1.1. The problem appears to have been fixed already with this version, but there's something about disabling the window's power management. I'll get back to you.

OK, would that mean the power management cannot be configured to shutdown the PC (standby or hibernation) at specified lengths of idle time (and not due to power interruption)? If so, it's a bit lacking. One should expect that the function of UPS protection includes allowing shutdown modes invoked by Windows Native power management that is not caused by power interruption.
The 2.1.1. version is running OK with data collection turned on and with hardly any CPU usage.

If you decide to configure native to turn off your systems resources after X amount of time, and then there is an abnormal power event forcing the UPS on battery, the event will not force the PC out of that state, and the softwar will not perform a graceful shutdown. If the PC is left unattended, it will be a hard shutdown, which defeats the purpose of having a graceful shutdown software.

OK. How can I confirm that native control has been disabled? Thanks for your help.

There really is no way to test that Native is disabled, other than letting your UPS run on battery with PowerChute installed to see that any Native Shutdown settings are overridden. You can still control powersaver options such as shutting down hard disks, monitors, etc. after X minutes, however, keep in mind that if anything pertaining to the PC is shutdown, and there is an outage, the UPS will not wake the system up to shut it down.
