Hi,
I have Powerchute Business v8 installed on our 2003 server. I have the runtime remaining threshold set to 5 mins and the OS shutdown delay set to 3 mins. I tested the configuration by unpluging the power source on the UPS (smartups 700). The server did give me notification once it reached the 5 mins threshold. However the server shut itself down 1 min after the runtime remaining threshold reached. I though the server would shutdown itself until 3 mins passed the threshold. Did I miss something here? Also, can someone tell me if the low battery signal timing (currently set to 2 mins) has any impact to the above configuration?
Thanks

Hello,
Could you tell us all of the events you have Shutdown scheduled for and what the time frames are?
It sounds likely that you have a couple of different events set for shutdown and they may be overlapping, triggering before the one you really want to.
Take a look at the actions page and anything that has the little green dot under the shutdown column.
Also what are the following set to:
Time Required For Shutdown Sequence
Let us know 🙂

I only enabled shutdown for low batttery condition. As I mentioned, the runtime remaining is set to 5 mins (this is the time required for shutdown sequence)
Thanks

Ok, I gotcha.
The delay that your talking about is not quite what your thinking it is, here is it's description:
OS Shutdown Delay:
The maximum time required for OS shutdown after the configured command file has completed. After this delay, the UPS will turn off its output, turning off power to the protected system.
So basically the delay is stating that this is how long the OS will take to shutdown, when this is complete I (the UPS) can now turn off. This is not a delay for how long the unit will wait before shutting the OS down.
Hope this helps.

I just tested the configuration. It looks like I have to specify time duration for the shutdown script to executre. By default, the command file execution duration is set to 0 and it didn't seem to run if I leave it as default.
I still don't see how the OS shutdown delay comes into place in this situation as the machine shutdown 1 min (this is the time I specified for the command file execution duration) after the remaining time threshold reached.
Thanks

The shutdown delay will begin after the script timer, so the timeline is:
1, time for total shutdown
2, command file timer
3, OS delay time (which is simply how long the OS takes to shutdown)
4, ups turn off after OS delay
So the time remaining triggers, the command runs at whatever time interval you set, the OS delay time you set kicks in after the command file, then the ups waits to shutdown for the amount of time that was set in OS delay.

Thanks a lot, it starts making sense now.
One more question, what does time low battery signal timing for? Do I have to worry about it at all?

In this instance, no you should be fine. Otherwise it is the time that the unit will mark when the low battery begins its countdown, so if you had your settings based off of low battery itself it would be important, but you arent so you should be fine with the setup your using.
