No warning message using APC PowerChute Business Edition software with windows7

Hi

My old APC Pro 1500 UPS would alert me with a pop up message on windows 7 (Powerchute Personal Edition), when the power was turned off/ failed.

------------------------

My new APC Smart-UPS C 1500VA 230V uses: Agent Web Interface. (APC PowerChute Business Edition)

My question is why can't the APC PowerChute Business Edition software alert me via the windows7 OS?

The Smart-UPS just beeps every minute at the moment? Can someone advise me how to configure the unit so that windows7 is informed?

thanks

Jonathan

My APC Pro 1500 UPS alerts me with a pop up message on windows 7 Home Version using (Powerchute Personal Edition), when the power is turned off/ failed. The business version of Powerchute does not alert me. The Smart-UPS C 1500VA 230V uses the business version of the powerchute software .

Jonathan,

We have Kbase FA159639 that discusses this issue. The issue is a Microsoft limitation. Microsoft omitted the messenger service that it had used since Windows NT. This is the background process that PowerChute used to message the local server as well as remote servers.

What version of Windows 7 are you running? I have a work around but it requires the OS be Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise. On those versions Microsoft provide a utility name msg.exe and it can be scripted to post messages to the desktop. Windows 7 Home does not offer the utility.

Jonathan,

I have not tested Windows 10 but my assumption would be no for any home versions of Microsoft OS.
