Last week I replaced the battery cartridge in the above model UPS. The replacement was a new APC battery. After installation I set the battery install date via the front interface. The battery then showed 100% capacity, but slowly began counting down. It was at 97% after a few minutes, but I left it thinking it might straighten itself out overnight. Well yesterday it ran and passed it's first scheduled self-test. The resulting log message for this self-test is confusing. It says "UPS: passed via failed a self-test." Even though that is confusing my main concern is the battery capacity. It has now been 7 days since installing the new battery (no fail over to battery has occurred either) yet the UPS is reporting 35% battery capacity.
UPS Output Watts - 18%
Input/Output - 118 VAC
Battery Runtime Remaining: 23min
Is there something else that needs to be done?
(I am running a network management card).
Resetting or rebooting the UPS would be a last resort as it is running a distribution switch in our nearly 24hr environment.

Hi,
It is ID18 so it looks like you can go to UPS 09.3 as outlined here in the chart towards the bottom -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA164737
You can download the UPS 09.3 file from there and then use your Network Management Card to push the firmware to the UPS as I might have mentioned - instructions are here to do that (http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA170679). You just need to make sure that because you turn the power output off and have to manually turn it back on, that you're not powering your Network Management Card's network connection that way.
I can look at the logs you can get from the About->Support in the v6.2.0 web UI. You need to press generate logs and then download them and provide me the .tar file you'll get.

Could you provide the log dump via About->Support in the web interface to review?

I'm sorry I dont have that option under About. Just the serial, firmware, and manufacture date (09/2011)
I don't see any support options. This may be an old interface.
This is a UPS network management card 2

Oh, ok, yes, it is probably an earlier version. I was referring to v6.X.X firmware which is current and it sounds like you have v5.X.X.
Here are instructions on retrieving log files on all versions -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156131
I am looking for event.txt, data.txt, and config.ini.

Firmware Revision - UPS 06.5 / MCU 11.0 / UBL 08.2 / MBL 11.0
I don't see an ID number.
I will evaluate and discus with my mgr regarding upgrading. Is there any risk at all that the UPS could reboot or lose power to the outlets on the back during the upgrade? If there is even the smallest risk we will have to get further approval since an outage is possible.
Just to be clear...is it possible to upgrade our current card to 6.x.x ?
This is interesting...just a few hours ago we had a brief site wide brown-out. The UPS is reporting it was on battery power for the duration of 1 second. The battery capacity is now at 41% (27min runtime).

What did you see under UPS->About for firmware?
And no, when you upgrade the Network Management Card, it does not affect the UPS or whatever type of device it is in. Only the Network Management Card will reboot its management interface. However, if you have to upgrade your SMT2200RM2U UPS some day, that procedure does require the UPS output to be turned off in order to perform the upgrade.
And yes, any AP9630/31 when used with a Smart-UPS can be upgraded to v6.X.X. There are some products out there that use AP9630/31 that do not yet have an application at the v6.X.X revision level but yours does and that is what I attached earlier.

Hi again,
OK, yes, there is an update available for your UPS as well. And I think the lack of ID was also addressed in a newer version of the Network Management Card firmware.

Just to be clear...the EXE's and instructional link you posted earlier is to upgrade the firmware on the Network Management Card?
We may consider upgrading the UPS firmware too. I just tried looking up the firmware for just the UPS and it was quite overwhelming. There seems to be so much available. Can you post the link to the correct firmware & tutorial for upgrading our UPS?
Thanks for all you help!

Hi - yes, I am confirming the .exe's for firmware I gave you are Network Management Card only.
For upgrading your UPS, this is the best resource -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA164737
I was looking for the "ID" on the UPS because that makes the UPS upgrade procedure a lot less overwhelming so if you update the Network Management Card first, we could get that hopefully and then work on determining the available ways to update your UPS - some can do it via USB, serial, and via the Network Management Card (it can push a file to the UPS if the UPS supports it).

For the network mgmt card...Can I upgrade directly to 6.x.x from my current firmware, or do I need to update to v5.1.7 first?)

You can go straight to v6.X.X without issue. This may help you just as some guidance -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA167693
Furthermore, do you use HTTPS secure web access? It doesn't sound like you do but we'll be releasing AOS v6.2.1/sumx application for Smart-UPS this week to fix this issue -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA238115 but that is the only benefit it has over v6.2.0. If you use HTTPS, you could wait a day or two until it is on the website. If you don't use HTTPS, go ahead with v6.2.0 if you want to do it now.

I updated the NMC2 firmware yesterday. I can now view the ID you were talking about. The battery percentage currently shows 42% (28min runtime) with an output load of 17 percent.
Can you now advise me what firmware I should upgrade the UPS to?
Firmware Revision: UPS 06.5 (ID18)
Manufacture Date: 09/21/2011
thanks,

Hi,
It is ID18 so it looks like you can go to UPS 09.3 as outlined here in the chart towards the bottom -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA164737
