Hi,
I think APC puts out one of the best products out there, but to stay on top you always need to stay ahead of the competition. What features would you like to see improved on the Smart Backup units?
Some of the features I can think of are
- Reduced power for operating a Smart UPS. (Green)
- Better fan control
Chris

SILENCE of course! And sorry for being so late and so noisy for this thread! 🙂 I have a SURT 2000XLI since two years, and since two years I had no electricity problem nor a problem caused by faulty electricity within any of the two computers ( one a laptop! ), a medium size music set, TV, and an all in one printer etc. attached to it! But I really think APC must do much better to provide silence! I am very much pleased from my UPS but at the same time I am very disturbed from the fan noise!
And a better fan and energy management of course! I know my UPS is designed for "heavy duty, and turn on and forget device" but still there must be some things that can be done for a more comfartable device!
Thanks Chaugh, for such a thread and just in time subject! And Angela, in the end I changed my ISP and now I can enter the forums directly! 🙂

hi chris
i think this is a GREAT idea for a thread. thanks for starting it.
please post features that you people out there, as customers, are looking for in Smart UPSs for the future.
also..APC is releasing a newer generation of Smart UPS later this year I believe (don't quote me on that) so for the features you post, I can note if they will be part of the next generation.

That's awsome to hear a newer model is possible later this year. Do you have any additional information on them? Will they be compatable with existing network management cards are will that feature be included in the new models? Will this also be utilizing multilayer polymer capacitors?

Within the PowerChute software, have a user-definable battery spec, used for estimating run-time.
Reading all these posts, clearly there are a lot of people for numerous reasons who do not use stock APC battery pack specs. Either they connect multiple packs, other brands, higher capacity, etc.
Have a section where the user can enter the a/hr rating in PCBE, rather than telnet-ing in to the UPS and changing battery pack count, or whatever goofy way you currently change that.
Stew.

I have to agree APC UPS's are a great product. Thanks APC!
I have one feature request, add the ability to authenicate to a SMTP server in AP9617 and other cards. Sending an e-mail notification is very difficult without the SMTP authentication. Please, please, please!
Jeff

stew - we do have a similar option on the larger UPSs such as Symmetra and SURT15K and SURT20K units that allow a user to add extra amp hours for third party battery cabinets to account for the extra runtime. i dont imagine it will be ever available on smaller UPSs or non XL units because APC does not support third party batteries in place of geniune RBC replacements, only the external battery cabinents on those larger units. i am not sure if PCBE will have this because the units that support this usually have a network management card built in.
jeff - SMTP authentication is going to be tentatively available on the new line of network management cards - AP9630, AP9631 in an upcoming firmware release. PCBE i imagine too will have this ability in a release in the near future. i am not 100% sure yet.
but keep the requests coming! i am just adding my own personal two cents.
