If I don't install PowerChute Personal Edition with my Back UPS Pro BR 1350, then do I ever need to use the USB communication cable between the Back UPS and laptop? If so, for what?
Thanks

Hello,
You do not need to connect the USB cable. A laptop has built in shutdown software so if the laptop battery drains the OS will power down.

I wouldn't see a need unless you want the operating system to use its own capabilities, if any, to communicate with the UPS.
