I have an SU1500 with USB connection, and use PCBE Basic 7.0.5 to monitor one server. I am reinstalling the agent due to a lost password and it will not detect the UPS during install. I manually select the USb port and the install continues. Once all other components are installed, I cannot a connect to the agent through the APC server or console. Although I am not getting Connection error events in the system logs, the behavior of the APC Server software seems like that is the case.
I have switched the cables from USB to serial. however, I cannot find a method to chagne the UPS communication method. If there a way to due this without completely uninstalling and reinstalling??
Thanks
Matt

Resetting the UPS itself worked! Thanks! All communications are back up and running.

To begin with, you're running an outdated version of PCBE - the latest for your model is 8.0.1 - so you may want to update. This version only has the agent, though, since that's the main source of information.
The password for the agent, server, and console all need to match in order to work properly, so that may have an influence on what you're seeing.
I'm not too familiar with the older interface, but in the agent, there's a section under Protected System > System Settings where you can select the COM ports. However, you also need to brain dead the UPS when changing communication methods.
To do this, you need to disconnect your equipment from the unit, turn off the UPS, unplug it from the wall, then press & hold the off button for about 5-6s. Then you can power everything back on and utilize the serial port instead of the USB.

Thanks for the reply. I am still on 7.0.5 because we use VMWare server in Windows, and the 8 installer will not complete with that present. I uninstalled and reinstalled all 3 components to 7.0.5 to ensure the passwords were not an issue.
I was unaware of the process for the UPS itself. I will have to give that a try this weekend.
Thanks
