As far as I can tell, only Modbus TCP is currently supported for this UPS and 'chu' application as per the register map:
http://www.apc.com/salestools/LARD-9K3GSQ/LARD-9K3GSQ_R0_EN.pdf
I will see if Modbus serial is planned for a future firmware release or if we can log it as an enhancement request.

I am finding that the current solution for Modbus RS-485/serial on this UPS is to use a MGE BMS card 66061 in the multi-slot.
To clarify, if you are using AP9635 you would likely already have a 66061 connected to your AP9635 as part of the kit AP9635 for G5K - part number G5K9635CH, but you would need an additional 66061 to provide Modbus serial or else AP9635 will not show any data. (66061 card is how the AP9635 receives data from the UPS and cannot be disconnected without loss of data in AP9635.)
This requires some setup to get working so you'd need to contact your local service team for more detailed support and help getting this set up and configured.

Hi,
Only 66061 is required for RS-485 specifically.
AP9635 supports Modbus TCP only and you already seem to have that. I mentioned some of the other things since it seems you have an AP9635 already installed in this UPS and did not want you to be confused that AP9635 requires its own dedicated 66061 card as part of installation. Dedicated/second 66061 is required for Modbus serial/RS-485.

Hi Angela,
Yes there is 66061 card available on UPS and i have tried to fetch the RS485 data directly from it using this FAQ.
http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA354828
But still unable to even get connection with device by using the procedure mentioned in above FAQ.

Good Day Angela,
Mr. Usman is my college he is currently on the site and trying to communicate the UPS on Modbus RTU.
With Reference to http://www.apc.com/salestools/LFLG-A32FWS/LFLG-A32FWS_R1_EN.pdf note# 2 is saying "Modbus Serial RTU is supported on NMC model AP9635, and Modbus TCP is supported on NMC models AP9635, AP9630, AP9631 and AP9537SUM."
which means modbus RTU and Modbus TCP both are supported.
Please Advise/Comment.

Hi Genjua,
That URL you sent is the register map is for MGE Galaxy 3500 and Smart-UPS VT as well as single phase Smart-UPS where yes, AP9635 (and other NMC models) does both RTU and Modbus TCP within its firmware application.
The statement at the top "MGE Galaxy" is generic so I can see where it is confusing. I will ask that it get updated to specify MGE Galaxy 3500 which is a totally different UPS/design.
Based on Galaxy 5000 UPS design, it is not possible to do Modbus serial/RTU direct from AP9635 unfortunately. It has to be done by 66061 in the multi-slot.
If you look at the AP9635 you have today, it's Modbus RTU is likely connected to a dedicated 66061 installed at the same time AP9635 was. If you disconnect this, then AP9635 won't work because the Modbus connection from 66061 is how it "talks" to the UPS. A second, dedicated 66061 must be added to get Modbus serial/RS-485. I suppose if you don't want to use AP9635 anymore, you could just use the single 66061 you have too.
I am not familiar with setting this up so if you think you have what's required and have it set up properly, I suggest to contact 3ph support in your region to get some guidance.

Angela thanks much for your comment, we will check UPS by adding 2nd 66061 card.
One more thing i want to discuss in current scenario if we disconnect 66061 with AP9635 and connect it with laptop using RS-485 converter, we do not get any data on modbus it says device not connect. Why is this happening?
Please comment/advise.

Hi Genjua,
I'm not sure to be honest. I did hear from a colleague that there are a few jumpers on the 66061 that need to be set a certain way when using AP9635. I am not sure if they need to be changed if you're not using it with AP9635 but rather a PC or BMS. Baud rate is also set to 1200 when used with AP9635, is that what Mr. Usman was trying when connected to a PC?
Did you want me to try to get a local support expert to contact you and Mr. Usman on this directly?
