Well I'm still trying to get access to our MW in our training lab to test out some SNMP stuff with it over the network, but from supporting ISX Central and it's customers who also have some MW's, here is what I can tell you:

1. The Symmetra MW, although having some SNMP capability, is not FULLY SNMP compliant. The way the current story goes, the MW can send SNMP traps to a trap receiver based on status changes, warnings, errors, etc... All that important stuff you'd want to be notified of...

2. There are no actual OID's on the MW to query. If you add the MW to a ISX Central, it doesn't report any sensors, just link status. I think this is why you don't get any query results.

3. There is a new hardware revision of the MW display which is the network enabled brain of the unit. This rev is due out sometime in the coming year, and will add full SNMP support so that the device can be more easily monitored and queried via our own SNMP management platform, and others.

Once the new display is out, I would assume either that the MW will be able to poll data via the 3ph PX portion of the tree, or they will rev the MIB to include a special branch which will include all the sensors that the MW is capable of reporting.

Currently, you should be able to parse the MIB into your NMS, and configure it to be a trap receiver within the MW display. Then, whenever ther is a event on the MW, it will send a trap to your NMS and your NMS can then take the appropriate actions to notify yourself.

There is also direct email notifications in the MW display that you can configure and eliminate the NMS middle man if that works for you as well.

-Mike

Hi Mikhail,

Our MIB covers all our SNMP enabled products including the Symmetra MW. The current MIB is the PowerNet MIB v.3.9.6 located at ftp://ftp.apcc.com/apc/public/software/pnetmib/mib/396/powernet396.mib. If it doesn't download and instead opens another page you may have to copy the text into a text file then name it "powernet396.mib" and save it.

Thank you,
However, it seems to me I tried the file, downloaded it in a snmp browser.
Then tried to search Symmetra MegaWatt and failed to find the UPS in the tree.

Could you post a screenshot where the UPS is in the tree?

PS no problem with Symmeta PX, 3ph
