Why is APC still called " AMERICAN POWER CONVERSION" ??

Hey Folks,

Wondering why APC is called "AMERICAN" POWER CONVERSION when nearly all the stuff - meaning components PC boards,
BATTERIES etc are "MADE IN CHINA" !! Having been insdide countless APC UPS units and nearly all the stuff they are made of is made in
Malaysia, Singapoor, China ETC ..Many moons ago the stuff was made in Rhode Island USA with USA parts -- But not any more !! why don't they rename it
CHINA POWER CONVERSION - or CPC or better yet ABUSA POWER CONVERSION - anywhere but the USA POWER CONVERSION..
Well hope you can give a good answer to this Q !!

Thanks for reading !!

UpsGuy,

Thanks for your response..Well - Not mad at APC just the mindset of people especially we AMERICANS and
relating to our "attitudes that have helped put AMERICA on a downward slide" Did you ever see a bumper sticker
on the back of a car - "next time your hungry -- EAT YOUR FOREIGN CAR?? 90% of Americans want a better life -- right?
without thinking of the consequences of shipping all manufacturing overseas - resulting in the loss of "Jobs" right ?
It has a spiral effect no jobs here - lower quality of life - less work - higher unemployment etc.. Well--
A co with the name APC - could take steps to turn the tide !! How many I.T. folks buy APC not even thinking that
the stuff is made everywhere but the USA.. Except for the MGE products that APC acquired in the few years "MOST"
of their products are made "OUTSIDE" the good old USA --BUT the name "AMERICAN POWER - gives the impression that
the stuff is "MADE IN THE USA". .UPS GUY - you are lucky to have a job still - If they could outsource you - they would !!
Perhaps folks here on AMERICAN SOIL should reconsider where the stuff is made before they open their wallet !!
Not long ago -- was working on a Liebert unit and saw a sticker - made in China -- they too used to be made in the USA
(OHIO - etc)...-- Open up a Powerware unit - - you will see - stickers - wham bam thank you mam - made in "wherever" but
the good old USA.
AND -- the "out of box failure rates" are WAY UP!! does a guy making 50$ a week give a C__P if your battery backup works
when you start it up?? Does he give a cr__p when the water he drinks is contaminated with lead and other industrial wastes??
WILL PEOPLE HERE WAKE UP - or is it too late ??

APC by Schneider Electric Manufactures quite a few UPS's in the US. The Galaxy 3000, 4000, 7000, 8000 are all made in Costa Mesa, CA not to mention a variety of PDU's, Static Swithes and switch gear customization.

APC does not manufacture batteries, they buy from whoever is the lowest bidder for the size batteries they require, and then relabel them.

Correct. A battery is an ancillary component of a UPS and are supplied by companies that specialize in the science of chemical/electrical storage systems.

In regard to branding, when the name "APC" was formulated in the '80's, the world was a much larger place. Now, in a global economy, mfg is sourced where it is most effective and efficient. As far as the name, brand recognition is best maintained by retaining the original badging, regardless if some product lines may not be mfg'd on American soil for reasons mentioned above.

MAYBE -- JUST MAYBE someone with some BALLS at APC can get the ball rolling and start remaking the stuff in the GOOD OLD USA
and then advertise that they are " Proudly made in the GOOD OLD USA "and maybe they will gain some RESPECT and - even better from
a CAPITALISTIC - angle GAIN SOME MARKET SHARE Maybe a few of you younguns out there may remember "BEST POWER" well they prided
themselves on being "MADE IN THE USA" and they kicked butt in thei day till they were bought out 3-4 times.. All their UPS units were "MADE WITH PRIDE"
in the "GOOD OLD USA" They even had "MADE IN USA" on their seriel number stickers! Anyhow if you want a UPS made in the USA - "with Pride" try CONTROLLED POWER CO - made in Troy MI..

GOD BLESS AMERICA !

This is a post you made just a few weeks ago. What has happened in the past few weeks to make you so mad at APC? Did you not read some of the last few posts made. APC still makes alot of UPS's in the US.
