The SMT Series units do not support battery expansion (Extended Battery) units. The SMX / SRT / SURT Series models do along with some of the newer (specific) lithium models.
The larger units such as Symmettra / Other obviously do to for data centre's.
You can tell if it does support extended battery packs by looking in the back as there will be a input port.
The Anderson connectors for each model UPS Series has a different plug. Which is sized approximately for the ampacity it’s intended to carry along with being a completely different colour.
The smaller units that aren’t the size of a fridge normally run 48, 72, 120 VDC. APC also offers industrial units where the batteries are similar to car batteries that sit on shelves and wires externally using a proprietary battery cable. These units are normally hardwired to the input / output of the input source voltage and the target device like a industrial machine.
