I've recently acquired an APC UPS and I would like to access it using hyperterminal/putty, via serial cable.
I'm using the following COM4 (it is my case) configuration, as described on docs :
I've tried too, higher baud rates, without success.
When I issue command Y there's no response. Well, there is no response of any kind after any issued command.
However, if I install Powerchute Agent, UPS is responding correctly.
Anybody can show me where am I going wrong?
Thanks.

Thank you for response. I cannot add any hardware to UPS so this solution is not suitable for me.
I've found that specification pdf that I downloaded from support area is not the correct one. APC provide me a second specification, based on modbus, that allowed me to communicate with UPS. So I will use this second version of specification to work.
Thank you everyone for your responses.

I think you'll find the newer units (ie newer than an SUA) don't use the old serial protocol.

Thanks for replying, Brad.
Does it mean that there is no way to communicate with UPD through command line?

Pretty much, without breaking it open and getting creative.

Hi,
If you install the AP9620 LCC card into a SMT UPS you can connect to the SMT using the 940-0024 smart signalling cable through the LCC and utilize the old UPSlink protocol.
Note: when the AP9620 card is installed in a SMT model Smart-UPS the UPS becomes a SUA Smart-UPS so some of the updated features of the SMT are no longer available. An example is the switched outlet groups are converted to a single outlet group to mimic a SUA Smart-UPS.
