Is there a way to silence alarms without PowerChute. I run Linux systems.
I have the SPV 550VA (BE550G) Battery backup for my Linux box. The problem I have is the alarm that sounds whenever the electric goes off. It's very easy to tell by the silence of the house and lack of everything else electrical that the power is off so the alarm is annoying and pointless. The problem comes when the power goes off during the night of when I'm not home. People tend to get tired of the beeping and shut the UPS off without bothering to shut down my computer which makes the UPS pointless.
Since the computer runs Linux I can't install PowerChute and the interface I do have with the power manager doesn't give me any control over the UPS itself. Is there a way to silence the beeping without PowerChute? I've been searching and not finding any helpful information.

Hi,
Unfortunately no there is not a way to silence the beeper without the software. If you swap the BE550G for a BR700 or a similar Back-UPS then you would be able to silence the beeper. With the BR units there is a switch.
One thing you can do is attach a Windows system to the UPS temporally, install PowerChute Personal Edition, configure the UPS not to beep, then uninstall PowerChute. The UPS will store the information until it is reset/brain dead. If reset then the unit will revert to factory defaults and the beep would function as it does now.
