How to calibrate after Battery Replacement

Hi,

    I have an SUA1500i model APC UPS Purchased on 11th January 2013. In October 2015 it's backup time

reduced to 5 minutes. Upon inspection one of the internal battery was found to be down. Then I replaced

the Batteries with Amaron Quanta 12 V 18 AH Batteries( 2 No.s). Now next day after replacement suddenly

there was a Beep sound and the Battery Charge LED is showing the lowest charge level. Then the APC Dealer who 

replaced the Battery says it has to be Calibrated and for that 9-port is required. How to calibrate and what is this port?

Is USB Port enough ? SUA1500i model UPS is having one serial port and one USB port. Please help. Thanks in advance.

             Thanks a lot for the fast, detailed response. Sure it did help. Can I use a USB Cable instead of the serial cable?

Hi Jayan,

First you could try a manual battery calibration.

1. Charge the batteries fro atleast 8 hours

2. Stop the PowerChute plus software from running and disconnect
the serial cable.

3. There must be at least a 30% load attached to the UPS during
this procedure, but the process will cause the UPS to shut off and cut power to
its outlets. Therefore, attach a non-critical load to the UPS and then force
the UPS on battery by disconnecting it from utility power. Allow the unit to
run on battery until it turns off completely. Make sure at least a 30% load is
present!

4. Plug the UPS back into the wall outlet and allow it to recharge (it
will recharge more quickly turned off and with no load present). Once the unit
has recharged, the ""runtime remaining"" calculation should be more accurate.

Jayan,

If you are following the procedure Stuart recommended you do not need either cable. If you are running PowerChute depending on the version you can use either USB or Serial.

Hi Bill,

           Thanks a lot. Now everything is clear.  Here some unprofessional people were confusing by giving

            wrong information by saying 9-port is required for running calibration etc.
