Getting actual model number from UPS or serial number

Is there a way to get the actual model number off the UPS? Doing a search on the model listed from the web turns up multiple options (Ex. Smart-UPS RT 3000 RM XL)

Is there a way to lookup the serial number and get the model? APC's support site requires a model but it doesn't check to see if the model is correct.

Hello,

The best way to find the actual model number is to look on the UPS itself. On the back, there should be a white sticker/label that has the exact model and serial numbers listed. More than likely it will begin with SURT3000 for the model you've described.

Yes why can't we see the model number in the NMC console - it's really painful to have to look on the back of a unit that's been on the bottom of a rack for 5 years moving all sorts of dust and cables out of the way just to read a model number. While you are at it can you put the battery number information in the GUI as well...I'm sick of Sherlocking this stuff.

Hi - we have added this information to the NMC console for devices that support it. Unfortunately if it is an older UPS model that isn't capable of reporting it, NMC can't read it. I know that may not help but we definitely have addressed it for most new offers like Smart-UPS (those with prefix SMT, SRT, and SMX.) It is also displayed via front panel LCD if there is one. I think some Smart-UPS also started putting labels behind the front bezels instead of just the back.

A lot of other products like Rack PDU have always had this but then we started adding model/serial numbers to the front of the sticks.

No problem. Believe me, we all know it was terrible just as you said.

I should've also said, it requires a UPS Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) device or one that has a mini NMC2 inside for Smart-UPS since that is what the newer model prefixes that I mentioned support. In that firmware, there is an About->UPS or About->*device type* menu in the web. And some others list the model under an About->Network menu.

There is also an about command line command to see the same info.

Some older devices like AP7XXX series Rack PDUs, Automatic Transfer Switches, etc have always provided this via the network interface.

Ok let's take take an example, a 3 year old Smart UPS , Model name: Smart-UPS 3000 RM , when I go to that location in the NMC the model number is SMT3000RM2U, but that is not the same model number that is on the sticker, the only one support will take, which is SUA3000RMUS.

SMT3000RM2U is a valid model number if that is what shows in the NMC menu.. here it is on the website. http://www.apc.com/shop/us/en/products/APC-Smart-UPS-3000VA-LCD-RM-2U-120V/P-SMT3000RM2U is the URL for that UPS showing it as a valid number.

Is it possible you are logging into one UPS and looking at another in the rack accidentally? I don't know how a sticker saying SUA3000RMUS would end up on a SMT model. Does the UPS have an LCD on it and look like the one in the picture (at the link I sent) that you are physically looking at? An SUA model UPS would have just an LED display and two buttons on the front panel.

I understand there is maybe more to the story here but I don't see why support wouldn't accept the model number SMT3000RM2U unless it does not line up with some other bits of info you provided (like battery model # - which also we've added to the GUI like you said).
