I know that Apple provides a basic utility for directly connected UPSes, like the Back UPS Pro 1500, but it doesn't offer any software logging as far as I can tell. We have plenty of server UPSes like your Smart-UPS RM models and Networked PDUs, which have logging, communications, etc. I know you can use network shutdown on Macs as well, but how on earth can I see condition monitoring, reset battery replacement dates, etc. on our Mac machines' UPSes?

APC hasn't developed a Macintosh edition of PowerChute software (other than network shutdown, and even that I'm not too sure about) for quite a while now. Even when they did, it was pretty minimal as compared to the PC/Windows version. Apple's built in support treats the UPS like a generic USB HID battery class device and to my knowledge it does not record any detailed log data. (It might be worth a look at the Console app and any logs it lists.)
apcupsd is one third party solution that has been ported to the Macintosh and it certainly provides logging capability, along with the ability to check on things like battery replacement dates. If the UPSes in question communicate with the Macintoshes to which they are attached using any of the APC web/snmp management cards, Equinux APC Tracker is another possible solution.
