What does it mean on the AP9631 network card when the Green LED is constantly flashing at about a 1/2 second rate? I've lost communications to the card. This card has no serial port.
I tying the MAC address to its last known IP address with the arp -s command, but I still cannot communicate with the card.
I also have Wireshark monitoring the port, but I'm seeing no activity.
My last command was during a telnet session. I was connected and I changed the default gateway. It was set to an incorrect value. Because it's just a local 192.168.XXX.XXX network, I wanted to clear that value. So, I set it to 0.0.0.0. Ever since the reboot, I have not been able to communicate to the card.
In the manual, I see that you should not set the Gateway to 127.0.0.1. Did I put the card in a bad state by entering 0.0.0.0 for the gateway? If so, how can I recover the network card? I've tried the reset button several times.
Thanks,
-Shawn

sorry, configuration stuff, so basically back to factory default. it is a step beyond "resetting to defaults" because it wipes out the event and data logs which reset to defaults does not. it will NOT wipe out the APC operating system and application file on the card. you will be able to login and reconfigure the card right away with the default username and password and assuming firmware with AOS 5.1.1 or higher, the card will default to DHCP only mode.

yes, 0.0.0.0 is not good either. flashing green usually means invalid IP settings. the card has a console jack on it on the bottom left. it is a 2.5mm TRS connector that requires the 940-0299 configuration cable with a DB-9 connector on the other end.
i'd probably see if you can look at this article and see if any bits and pieces of it will help you get going -> http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3061
if not, do you have the configuration cable and do you have a computer with a serial port? what other resources do we have at our disposal? ARP usually won't work if it has some type of configuration on it? if you can afford to wipe the entire card, i can walk you through formatting the entire card and starting over from scratch.

Before I close this thread out, I just would like to know if there is a way to clear a bogus entry. For example, if I enter a default gateway value of 192.168.15.250. I move the UPS to a network without a gateway or router. Is there a way yo blank that entry?
Thanks,
-Shawn

Just out of curiousity, how do you clear an incorrect IP setting? Since I'm operating on a local, self contained network, there is no gateway. How do I clear the the default value setting?
Thanks,
-Shawn

if there is no gateway, you just don't enter one. so that is a good point. that was a recent change on NMC2 so i am assuming it does go to 0.0.0.0 if it is unconfigured...prior to NMC2 and the recent firmware revisions, a default gateway, or valid node on the network's IP was required for the default gateway field for the network stack to function. else, it would disable itself.
generally, you just overwrite the setting. you can format the entire card if you wanted, including IP settings, by holding down the reset button for 20 seconds but again, that will wipe out every single thing in flash memory.

By "wiping every sincel thing out of flash memory" do you mean that it's a dumb mictocontroller with no "operating system"? Or, does the 20 second reset only clear out all of the user enterable information (i.e. IP address settings, network name, domain, and all of that stuff)?
Thanks,
-Shawn

I should carlify this. I said "default information" but that's not what I meant. I meant information that has changed or is incorrect. In my case, I want to delete the gateway information.
Let's say the UPS IP address is 192.168.1.100. Once I regain control of the UPS, should I set the Gateway to the units IP address of 192.168.1.100?
Thanks in advance,
-Shawn
