Firmware upgrade fails "UPS state is not compatible"

Hello all,

I have multiple new UPS's, in particular, these are SMX1500RM2UC's.  A couple of them say in smartconnect that they have firmware upgrades, but when I try to do them, they say to Check UPS State and say that the UPS state is not compatible with firmware upgrade.  These units also have an NMC in them, but I am not seeing anything weird.  Any suggestions on what to look for?

Try this

1. Power off all equipment connected to the Smart-UPS
2. Power off Smart-UPS
3. Do not disconnect Smart-UPS from AC, and do not disconnect from local network. The UPS must remain communicating with SmartConnect.apc.com 
4. Log into the SmartConnect.apc.com account the Smart-UPS is associated with
5. Select the Smart-UPS from the dashboard, view UPS, and run the firmware upgrade
6. Once the upgrade has completed power on the Smart-UPS

Hmm so it has to be done in an unpowered state even though it says its an online upgrade?

So, what is supposed to be a simple click and go operation turns into a major shutdown of equipment following a 6 point checklist.

Thanks APC - any other "simple tasks" we need to know about?

This does not work, mine keeps saying that the state is not compatible with the upgrade but does not indicate what specifically is wrong with the “state”
