Hi,

I've got 5 servers and three Smart UPS 2200's and i'm trying to sort out the software configuration.

I have the Powerchute Business Edition Console/Server/Agent installed on one server and agents installed on all the other servers. I've successfully added 4 of the servers to the console (including the one with the console and server on) but i'm having trouble adding the last one.

The problem server is running Windows 2003 and is plugged into the main management port on the back of the UPS. There is another server attached to the same UPS via an interface expander (using simple signalling) - this server has been added to the console already without issue.

When I try to add the last server to the console it gives the message "Failed to add ". Network communications between the servers are OK, I can open the agents web interface from the server which has the console and server installed. There's no firewall that would be stopping communication, it's a domain controller.

I can't figure this out, am I missing something obvious?

Problems like this often relate to the kbase below.

Regardless, the best thing to do would be reinstall the agent. Make sure the unit auto detects when running the install. If it doesn't auto detect, then that could be your issue. Let us know how you make out.

Spot on, thanks.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the agent. It doesn't auto-detect for some reason, so I entered COM1 and the UPS model, I can now add the agent to the console.

I didn't do anything different this time round though, so i've no idea why it didn't work the first time!
