I currently have switches connected to a smart ups. I am not able to monitor the ups because it is not connected to a cpu. I would like to find a way to monitor the ups through ethernet and connect the ethernet to the switch. I have several cabinets with switches and I would like to put a smart ups in each of them and be able to monitor the ups also. Are there any ups that will allow me to do this?
Thanks,
cclark

Good afternoon,
Every Smart-UPS UPS (except for the SC category) offers at least one SmartSlot where a [Network Management Card|http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=98] (or other accessory card) can be installed.
To give each UPS a presence on your network, the [AP9617|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9617] Network Management Card would do the job. You would assign this card an IP address on your network and access it via Web, Telnet, SSL, SSH, etc. The card can email alerts or use SNMP to keep you advised of your UPS' status.
There is also a card that has the ability to sample the environment's ambient temp and humidity: [AP9619|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9619]. This could serve useful if these are unmanned closets and you are curious about the temperature.
Finally, if the switches ever go down and you need access to the UPS, you could use the [AP9618|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9618] which has everything the 9619 has plus a standard analog modem. You could connect it to a POTS line and get to the UPS even if your network was down.
