Hi everybody,
I'm a new user and could you please check for me this trouble
I have just bought UPS APC version SUA 1000i
I deploy it in to my network by connect it with PC 1 (which installed PowerChute Bussiness Agent). Can I use this PC 1 to sent email alarm for this UPS via SMTP ?
I have SMTP server and I fill all information in Menu Change configuration list (in PowerChute Bussiness Console which installed in PC2). But i don't know why it doesn't work (fail in test email).
Our printer laserjet 3010/3015 still can sent email alarm normal via SMTP. Did I miss something ?
I’m using PowerChute version 9.0.2, Windows 7. I don't have Network Management card.
Thanks and best regrads
Luan.

Thank for your support !
I think the SMTP Server is working normality. Because the HP printer still sending email alarm for me when it has a trouble. We are using same setting like you said, Angela. Port 25 and didn't use SSL.
The question here is; With connect via USB, can UPS SUA1000i can sent email alarm by the computer which installed PCBE (agent version) ?
Here is my topology:
- UPS SUA1000i connected by USB cable with PC 1 ( Installed PCBE agent)
- PC 2 Install PCBE Console and Server to Monitoring all UPS. (This PC isn't SMTP Server)
- Via PCBE (agent) PC1 can read all data of this UPS, and PC 2 via PCBE Console can read from so can this Computer.
- Please remember that i don't have Network Managerment Card for this UPS. I don't have permission change anything in SMTP Server, too.
Here is my configure in Profile (PCBE Console and Server)
Here is information received from PC install PCBE Agent.

Yes, i found the reason.
Symantec Endpoint Protection denied the email sent from Agent to Console.
When i set the email from SMTP passing Symantec, i got the mail alarm

Hi,
Where did you configure the e-mail settings? In the web interface or in the Server service and when the test fails where are you running the test from?
I configure the email setting in PowerChute Bussiess Edition Server and Console.
The configure you can check in the last i reply.
After i configured, i test by Test button in Console program and results is Fail.
Note: I don't have permission to change anything on SMTP Server.

what SMTP service are you trying to use? Email in PCBE requires port 25 and it cannot be changed. PCBE also does not support email authentication using SSL, only plain text. Some of those items may prevent mail from sending properly if not taken into account.

Hi,
I tested using the the from e-mail info you listed in your screenshots and the mail failed because the domain information is missing.
Thu Jun 13 09:10:36 EDT 2013: [SMTPMailWorker.transmitMailMessage()]- Send Mail Failed: javax.mail.internet.AddressException: Missing domain in string ``do_not_reply@''
Thu Jun 13 09:10:36 EDT 2013: [SMTPMailWorker.makeTestMessage()]- Failed to send test email message.
You need to enter the domain info for the to address and the from address. If you would like to check the error log, assuming you installed to the default path go to C:\Program Files\APC\PowerChute Business Edition\server. The error info is stored in debug.txt.

Wed Jun 12 10:23:42 ICT 2013: [SMTPMailWorker.makeTestMessage()]- Failed to send test email message.
Wed Jun 12 10:24:12 ICT 2013: [SMTPMailWorker.transmitMailMessage()]- Send Mail Failed: javax.mail.MessagingException: Exception reading response; nested exception is: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
Here is information store in file debug.txt. Sorry because i cant't fill the domain behide @ so you can't test
Would you mind explain for me: With connect via USB, can UPS SUA1000i can sent email alarm by the computer which installed PCBE (agent version) ?

The error you are seeing means that PowerChute has sent the e-mail and timed out waiting for a response. That indicates that either the server cannot communicate with the SMTP server or the SMTP server cannot communicate with the system PowerChute is running on. You can test to see if the system can communicate with the SMTP server by typing the IP address of the SMTP mail server and type in the # 25 in the Port Name field, then press connect.
Windows system
1. Go to Start | Run
2. Type Telnet
3. Type Open 10.72.5.185 25
If this fails, your SMTP server is not properly configured or does not accept connections on port 25. As Angela wrote earlier PowerChute requires port 25 and it cannot be changed and PowerChute does not support email authentication using SSL, only plain text.
