Did you mean the difference between a software initiated calibration and a calibration that is done manually?

Can you provide the model# of your UPS? You should only run a calibration (manual or software) if the battery is new and the unit is not reporting the correct runtime. The manual runtime calibration procedure is outlined in this document. We need to know what your UPS is to provide specifics about the software calibration, but basically the difference between the two is that the UPS is run until the battery is exhausted until it turns off when a calibration is run manually. In a software initiated calibration the UPS is run until the battery discharges around 15-20% the the unit switches back to utility.
