I am needing to setup graceful shutdown on several servers through the SmartUPS 1500 I have. Since it doesn't have a NMC, I will have to use PowerChute Business Edition. Do I need to physically connect each server to the UPS, not just for power, but also through USB or serial for communication? The 1500 comes with only one port for the USB cable. I was under the impression that the only server needing the USB connection was the server with my PowerChute "Server install". From there, that server would send the shutdown command to the other servers being managed. Is that correct?

Our model is a SMT1500RM2U. Sounds like the NMC is the best bet. We actually have physical as well as virtual servers I would like to include in the shutdown setup.
One more question. I also have an older UPS, a DLA1500RM2U. Is it possible to use Network Shutdown to control both UPS boxes and all of the servers?
Thanks for all your help with this.

Hi Jared,
Unfortunately, each UPS requires an NMC and each PowerChute client physically connected to the respective UPS will be installed and pointed towards the NMC in that UPS.
The DLA1500RM2U will work the same with an NMC and PowerChute. You can set up PowerChute in a redundant UPS scenario if you're saying these two UPSs support devices with redundant power supplies or just set them up individually for "single UPS scenarios.
