Connecting to the network port of a SmartUPS 1000

Hello --

I have a SmartUPS 1000 UPS, and I have connected it to network switch/router of my home office. I have downloaded the PowerChute Network Edition software,

and I am now going through the motions of setting up the software to communicate with the UPS. My question is the following: How do I determine the network

address of the UPS?

Hello,

I need to ask you a few questions first because what you're attempting may be incorrect. I also have some comments.

• Can you verify the exact model of your UPS? It should be on the back or bottom of the UPS depending on the model or available via the LCD if it has one. (Depending on the model of UPS, it may have an RJ-45 serial port which does not provide network access so that is why I am asking this).
• To have network access, most UPS models require a UPS Network Management Card such as AP9630 or 31 to be installed. (Instructions on configuring that, which comes preset for DHCP, are here ->How do you make a Network Management Card communicate on a network? | FAQs | Schneider Electric US
• So, the UPS Network Management Card goes in the UPS and you interface with that to talk to the UPS. The PowerChute Network Shutdown is for use on supported operating systems and communicates with the Network Management Card by IP address to keep the computer running the software up to date with the UPS status so it knows when it needs to potentially (gracefully) shutdown your computer. So, you don't use PowerChute Network Shutdown to set up the management Card.

So, we need to determine if you have a UPS Network Management Card, and if you don't, decide if you want to buy the accessory or if USB or serial communications (with use of PowerChute Business Edition) will suffice.
