Compensating for a high input voltage

We've been receiving these for a short time so I'd like to ask whether it is safe to increase the 'high transfer' setting.

At the moment the high transfer setting is set to 250, but I'm seeing 252 in the logs

Thanks

Western power just called to say they are going to drop the voltage by 6v to fix this issue with it going to the limit all the time. Amazing no one else has noticed this!

Hi,

What model UPS do you have? I assume you are in Europe and the normal voltage should be 230. Most of our UPS are designed to correct for over voltage by trimming instead of switching to battery. If the UPS is trimming the voltage you are fine if the UPS is switching to battery then you should contact the utility company and get the voltage issue resolved. you should not continually allowing high voltage through to the attached equipment.

It's a 3000XL and we're in the UK, so 230V.

The logs are not reporting switching to Battery, just compensating so am I right saying it is trimming the voltage?

We are in discussion with the utility company but I need to know if the 252v is still within safe limits of the UPS

Yes.

Yes. The UPS will continue to trim the incoming voltage until it either is corrected or increases 12 percent beyond the high voltage transfer point and at that point the UPS will switch to battery.

253 volts is still within the 10% of 230v so the UPS is fine, infact mine lives around that point. Western power collected the voltage monitoring device today as I kept getting email alerts at 255 volts in the middle of the night as the UPS was trimming the incoming, sods law that I never got an alarm during the weeks monitoring. Even the WP engineer said he wouldn't be happy living with it near the 10% limit. I doubt they will do anything. Maybe they will swap me to another phase as my house has 3 phase.

That's our issue, we keep getting these emails and funnily enough I'm pretty sure ours is Western Power too...we only started to see these notifications mid August last year and although we could create a rule on the mailbox to move them, I'd prefer to see things as and when situations arise.

What do you do Gareth?

Is the answer just to adjust the high transfer setting to 253V?

mine is at 257 now as it was still being tripped at 255, call WP and tell them this is happening and they will setup a monitor, once they confirm it they can sort it.

Got to wait and see what they say as they only collected it yesterday.

Yeah we've been in discussion with them already.

One of our issues it that it sounds like they want to turn the power off to the building to install the Monitor.

Probably a jobsworth, we had an old chap who used common sense and didn't shut down the power to install/remove

I've set the high transfer to 257 to see if we stop getting the email notifications.

I got phoned back with the expected results, didn't go above 10% but he didn't dismiss it, instead he said they are going to fit the monitor at the substation as we are a couple of streets away so those near the substation will probably be going over the 10%, once they have had it in for a week he will call me back to let me know if they are going to trim the voltage.

They way I see it is the fact it is at minimum 242 volts so they can knock 10 volts off and all will be good. And now back to waiting!
